About Us
Where It All Started
PocketHandhelds was founded in 2011 out of a very real frustration. At the time, retro handhelds were hard to trust. Some devices looked great online but felt cheap in hand. Others worked well for a few days, then started showing issues. There wasn’t a place you could go and feel confident about what you were buying.
We weren’t trying to build a brand in the beginning. We just wanted a better way to find and use these devices ourselves. That mindset still shapes how we operate today.
A perfect fit for your every day life
Built on Hands-On Experience
Over the years, we’ve spent a lot of time with these products — not just unboxing them, but actually using them the way customers do. Testing different systems, trying different firmware, checking how devices hold up after weeks or months of use.
We’ve seen what works and what doesn’t. Small details make a big difference: button feel, screen quality, battery stability, how smoothly games run, how easy it is to pick up and play without constant tweaking. That kind of experience can’t be learned from a spec sheet.
No Hype, Just Straightforward Information
One thing we’ve learned over time is that people don’t like surprises when they’re buying tech. Especially in retro gaming, where expectations can be unclear.
So we keep things simple. We describe products as they are — not just the highlights, but also the limitations when it matters. The goal is to help you know what you’re getting before it arrives, not after.
Simplicity in design and form
What Matters to Us
We’re not a big company, and we don’t try to act like one. Keeping things small allows us to stay close to what we sell and how it performs in real use.
We pay attention to feedback, we notice patterns, and we make decisions based on that — not just what’s trending.
At the end of the day, if a product is on PocketHandhelds, it’s something we trust enough to use ourselves. That’s the standard we’ve kept since day one.
